Preventative Maintenance

Avid and Final Cut Pro Preventative Maintenance

it's 24 hours to the deadline, the system crashes and takes half your media offline….!

Has it ever happened to you?

There's a science to keeping your suite as reliable as possible, minimising downtime and maximising productivity.  We can help with:
  • Avid and Final Cut Pro.
  • Regular optimisation and preventative maintenance ‘health' check strategies.   We follow a comprehensive written checklist.
  • Media testing, raid protection, backup strategies, project archiving.
  • Ghost drives and version management.
  • Knowledge base research, warrantee optimisation.
  • Advanced media management.
  • Telephone and call out support.
  • We have an engineer on staff with Avid experience dating back to the very first Avid system installed in NZ in the early nineties.    Our engineers have experience editing on these systems as well as maintaining them – we find it helps immensely with understanding and meeting the client's needs.

    VCR Preventative Maintenance

Betacam, Digital Betacam, and DVCAM machines develop record and playback errors over time.   We recommend cleaning and alignment checks scheduled in relationship to use (per the hours-meter).   By keeping on top of performance, equipment failure can often be avoided, and expensive head replacements planned well in advance rather than in an emergency when down-time is ill-affordable.   We own alignment tapes for most decks.

Monitor alignment, audio and video calibration

  • Video monitor performance checks and alignments are available for grade 1 & 2 monitors.
  • We're able to provide grade-one monitor assessment of programme material with QC reports written.   Similarly should your programme be rejected by a broadcaster, we can interpret technical complaints and suggest the best remedy.
  • We own audio alignment test equipment enabling optimisation of signal-to-noise throughout a system, together with measurements of frequency response and distortion.   In these days of digital audio, analogue parts of the chain may have to cope with 20dB headroom or more; we can ensure they're tuned to avoid clipping without sacrificing noise floor unnecessarily.
